In anticipation of the inclement weather expected this weekend, the City of Peñitas will begin distributing free sand bags to its citizens at 4 p.m., today.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook  for the Rio Grande Valley from Friday night to Sunday evening.  With heavy rains and possible flooding expected throughout the weekend, residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.

“With this notification we are on alert and increasing our emergency preparedness efforts by providing sandbags to our residents and businesses,” said Interim City Manager, Omar Romero. Please contact City Hall at (956) 581-3345, should you have any questions.

On a first-come, first served basis, free sand bags are available at the following location:

  • Office of State Representative Oscar Longoria  – 1320 S. Main Street, Peñitas, TX (Intersection of Main St. and Military Rd.)
  • Sand bags will be provided beginning at 4 p.m., today.
  • Proof of residency or business is required (Valid ID or Utility Bill).

The City of Peñitas will continue to monitor the weather and issue further updates as needed. Our citizens are urged to remain prepared and to continue monitoring further updates from the city.
