The It’s Time Texas Community Fit Challenge has come to an end. Several Valley cities and school districts winning first place.
The 8-week contest is a challenge between cities and school districts in various size categories to get healthy. The contest awards points to the cities and districts based on participants submitting their healthy choices via social media.
The city of McAllen was the big winner overall scoring the most points out of all cities and organizations. Harlingen and Los Fresnos are also winners along with PSJA, Harlingen, Los Fresnos and Port Isabel school districts.
Xochitl Mora, Director of Communications – City of McAllen “To encourage their citizens to be healthly, to be more active, to live healthy because we want to change the perception that McAllen, that the Rio Grande Valley is not a healthly community, is not active, is not fit.”
Aside from bragging rights the city of McAllen says they will receive a grant which they will utilize to continue to expand their healthy initiatives programs.
