Christmas movie starring Alyssa Milano being filmed in Harlingen

HARLINGEN, Texas – The city of Harlingen is closing many streets this week
for the filming of a Hollywood movie with Hollywood celebrities like Alyssa Milano and Cristian de la Fuente.

Local 23 was there and got to talk to some of the producers and actors in the film, “Gift of an Angel”, which follows the relationship of a businesswoman and a little girl who was separated from her family along the border, and how the magic of Christmas brings them together.

“This is a holiday story this is a story about losing everything and whether you want to say it’s through the magic of Christmas or a miracle of Christmas people that have lost stuff in their lives come together and fill that hole that is in their hearts,” said Tara Prinia, a producer.

While “Gift of an Angel” is a Christmas movie, it also deals with pressing issues like immigration and family separation along the border. Actor Cristian de la Fuente wants this film to tell that story.

“In real life, there’s a lot of parents that are separated from their kids and we’re trying to tell this story and to show everybody what is the suffering and the struggle behind a family that is being separated,” said Cristian de la Fuente, actor.

Actress Alyssa Milano, who is said to be playing a social worker in the movie, got a first look on issues affecting immigration. She visited the catholic respite center in McAllen earlier this month to get a better understanding of what is happening along the border.

“I think it needs to be a lot easier for people to come over here and not open borders obviously, but a humane way for immigrants to have due process, to hear their cases, to get their cases heard so they can live the American dream,” said Alyssa Milano, actor.

Being so close to the border, the Rio Grande Valley seemed to be the perfect place to film the movie. Producers on the show say they wanted to give the audience an authentic feel to the story they are telling.

Street closures in Harlingen are set to remain closed as filming will continue all week. “Gift of an Angel” will premiere around October of next year.
