Chris Kyle Memorial Unveiled

Local News

Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who was the focus of the movie “American Sniper”, was honored today with a statue honoring his memory. A 9 ft. tall Bronze statue of Kyle was unveiled in the west Texas City of Odessa where he was born.

Hundreds of people came out to pay their respects to the late American Hero. Kyle is known as the deadliest sniper in U.S. Military History. He served four tours in Iraq and won countless medals for his bravery. Kyle and a friend were killed in 2013 at a Texas shooting range. A former marine was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Kyle’s widow attended today’s ceremony.

Taya Kyle, “There’s one man representing a whole group of people, and the way that the statue is facing, you know when the flag is flying it means that we’re in the fight. To face it towards the Veterans’ Hospital means we’re in the fight for you. To me that makes me emotional just thinking about it. It makes me cry when I think about what he would think, he would just be humbled. I really feel like he would just be like, me? You know all this for, you know for what I lived, but he would know too that it’s not just for him. It is, but it’s a tribute to his life and what he did and I feel like he would feel like his life mattered and it made a difference and it did.”

The Chris Kyle Memorial Plaza in Odessa cost nearly $1 million and was privately funded.
