It’s a special day in the Rio Grande Valley. For some it may be a break from the routine of everyday life.
Others celebrate the freedom this country represents. For many valley residents the celebration is taking place on the beach.
It’s the Fourth of July on South Padre Island and many flock to the beaches for a little summer fun. On this day the United States turns 242 years old and it’s ideals carry on today. Whether it’s time to spend time with the one’s you love or take some time off to relax, valley residents took time to celebrate.
A little bit of coastal fog this afternoon, but that did not stop local beach goers from celebrating freedom in the best way they know how. Some say it feels great to be an American. For others it’s an opportunity to remember those that fought for our country.
It’s a time to be thankful. A time to be with loved ones and to celebrate the freedom we all enjoy. And why not, to enjoy in a fun and relaxing way. Happy Birthday America! May you have many more to come.
The celebration continues tonight with fireworks out on the beach. For those that missed out on the display, the city of South Padre Island hosts fireworks every Friday and Satruday night until October.
