U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Rio Grande City Port of Entry seized a significant amount of marijuana valued at more than $16,000 during a recent enforcement action.

“This interdiction demonstrates how hard CBP works every day to protect our borders,” said Assistant Port Director Imelda Recio, Rio Grande City Port of Entry.  “I would like to commend our officers for their hard work.”

The incident occurred on Sunday, June 12, when a CBP officer referred a 2004 GMC pickup driven by a 47-year-old male mexican citizen for a secondary examination. During the secondary inspection, officers noticed discrepancies in the vehicle.  Further inspection resulted in the discovery of 52 packages containing 84.5 pounds of marijuana underneath the bed of the vehicle.

CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle. The driver and case were then turned over to a HIDTA Task Force for further investigation.
