A delegation of bishops visits the Rio Grande Valley this week. For them it is a firsthand look at the immigration issues along the border.
The group of religious leaders toured the Casa Padre Children’s facility, as well as the Border Patrol Processing center. Inside is where they had a chance to speak with some of the families. These families say they fled their home countries out of fear for their children’s lives.
Bishop Joseph Bambera, Catholic Diocese of Scranton, “It’s extremely complicated, and while you look at individuals who may be in situations that seem less than ideal for children and for families, there is a sense of relief that finally, they’ve come to a better and a safer place.”
The clergymen say while it’s important to protect the border, legislators need to create immigration laws that show compassion for undocumented families.
