In Cameron County, sheriff’s deputies are ready to go out on the streets looking a bit different than what they’ve looked like in the past couple of decades.
We are talking about them ditching the old Crown Victoria’s for new Tahoes. The old patrol vehicles which were afforded through Fund 90—money from crime busts— are now going out on auction through next week. Up to 47 of them are now open to public bidding.
“Right now we’re going to try and sell as many vehicles as possible, usually we have good luck in selling those vehicles.so i make sure that the officers, the patrol officers and the investigators have good running vehicles so we’ll get these vehicles that are higher from the ground and they’re four-wheel so they work well for us,” says Sheriff Omar Lucio.
The sheriff says in addition to the cars, the department will also be auctioning off a boat.
For more information on the auction as well as going by the sheriff’s office to view and inspect the vehicles, you are asked to dial 544- 0825.
