Cameron County Officials Urge Young People To Vote

Local News

Cameron County Commissioner Alex Dominguez said the county wants students of age registered to vote, so they can participate in the next elections.  He said it’s critical that, “young members in our society get involved with the process early.”

“What we found out is that the younger groups maybe don’t get so involved until little bit later, but we’re trying to tell them that they can be stakeholders now and really impact how communities make their decisions,” Dominguez said.

Dominguez said every high school in the Brownsville Independent School District registered about 125 students.

April 6 was the last day students could register to vote for the 2017 May elections.

The City of Brownsville, San Benito, La Feria, Rio Hondo, San Benito Consolidated Independent School District and Rio Hondo Independent School District are having elections in May.
