BROWNSVILLE, Texas - Cameron County is conducting a tabletop exercise to prepare for a disease outbreak. It's a mock training where local and state agencies gather and share their current plan of action.
Today's meeting was about a fictional influenza outbreak. Various partners spent over 4 hours collaborating to find the best course of action.
Esmeralda Guajardo – Cameron County Health Department says, “We brought in the key players that will have a role in containing the situation given the specific agencies involved. We do everything we need to make sure the county is safe.”
Cameron County was home to the first locally acquired case of Zika in late 2016. Exercises like these help agencies make sure a disease does not spread quickly.
