Under the budget plan by the Trump Administration, Laguna Atascosa could face a reduction in funding. One of the proposed cuts is federal funding given to counties to help wildlife refuges in their area. The National Wildlife Refuge fund gave close to $350,000 to Cameron, Hidalgo, Willacy and Starr Counties. Cameron county received the most funding, with the majority going to Laguna Atascosa. The refuge alone received more than $100,000 through the program.
