In today’s world it’s not unusual for a person to reach the age of 86. Reaching 96 is a lot rarer. But getting to 106 happens only once in a blue moon.
One Brownsville resident turned 106-years-old today. Andres Leija-Reyna was born on November 30, 1911 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
He came to the United States in 1970 and has outlived his wife and seven of his 11 children. At his residence at the Rio at Fox Hollow Nursing Home, a birthday party was celebrated.
His family said the secret to success includes not drinking alcohol, active dancing and his hardworking spirit.
Pilar Moreno, Activities Department at Rio at Fox Hollow said, “I know him for 37 years… I remember this man being a very happy man. He enjoys life. He used to dance and play games, go to outings… he was a family man.”
Mr. Leija-Reyna was sluggish today because he’s recovering from pneumonia. His physical therapist says he’s getting his strength back quickly and should be walking in no time.
