BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Phone scams are a common tactic used by scammers to rob customers for their money. How can one tell if those calls are real?

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board is participating in Utilities Scam Awareness Week. This week-long campaign aims to educate customers on tactics used by scammers. As well as what they can do to not fall victim to the scams, especially around the holidays.

Ryan Greenfeld, Brownsville PUB Communications Manager, “If you have any doubts hang up the phone and call us directly. To try to verify yourself, you can call 983-6300 and get in touch with someone and ask to look up the information about your account perhaps.”

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board wants their customers to know they never make calls that require you to make payments. They urge their customers to report scam phone numbers to the police or to them directly.
