The Brownsville Police Department has a new patrol unit on the streets of downtown Brownsville.
Police Chief Orlando Rodriguez introduced the six men and women that will be making up the new and improved full-time bike patrol unit.
These officers will primarily patrol the historic downtown and will focus on ensuring safety to merchants and pedestrians alike. All possible through police department funds.
Brownsville Police Chief Orlando Rodriguez, “This is going to dedicate them and be able to provide those services downtown that are desperately needed and that is a heavy police presence. Downtown is a more congested area, we have high traffic, we have the university close by, we have downtown merchants, we have a lot of pedestrian traffic so it’s important to have that police presence down in the downtown area.”
Chief Rodriguez says these bike patrol officers can respond to and handle any call for service.
