Brownsville Police Department Prepares for Blue Santa

Local News

The Brownsville Police Department is preparing for Blue Santa to visit children this Christmas. The Blue Santa program in collaboration with Walgreens kicked off this morning. For more than 18 years the Brownsville Police Department has collected toys through drop off locations at Walgreens in order to get Santa to pay a visit to less fortunate children during Christmas. Brownsville Police Chief Orlando Rodriguez says the program helps close to 3,000 children get a toy for the holidays.

Chief Orlando Rodriguez said, “We’re just happy, we’re excited. Santa’s about to come by and thank everybody and it’s important because it helps us give back to the community.”

Fernando Vasquez with Walgreens said, “You should see those lines, when you give that toy to a child, the smile that puts on their face, it’s a fabulous feeling. I mean if you’re able to donate a little bit, I mean it’s a great opportunity.”

If you would like to donate a toy you can do so by using the drop box at any Walgreens or going to the police station. If your child is in need this Christmas, you must contact the police department for a quick and easy sign up. The Blue Santa Toy Giveaway will be held December 17th.
