U.S. Border Patrol agents disrupted multiple smuggling attempts that resulted in the seizure of over 600 pounds of narcotics.

On Thursday, a U.S. Fish and Wildlife officer working near Garceno, Texas, advised Rio Grande City agents of a suspected narcotic smuggling event. Agents responded and observed shoe prints going north of the Rio Grande. Agents followed the prints and located five abandoned bundles of marijuana. The marijuana weighed more than 230 pounds, worth an estimated $184K.

A few hours later, Rio Grande City agents working near La Rosita, Texas, observed multiple subjects near the Rio Grande load bundles into a sedan. The vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed before turning around upon seeing agents. As the vehicle arrived at the river, the driver exited the vehicle and absconded to Mexico. A search of the vehicle reveals 39 bricks of marijuana, weighing more than 450 pounds, worth an estimated $361K.
