U.S. Border Patrol agents disrupted multiple smuggling attempts that resulted in the seizure of more than 830 pounds of marijuana.
On Thursday, Rio Grande City agents working near Roma, Texas, observed multiple subjects carrying bundles of marijuana north from the Rio Grande. As agents responded, the smugglers abandoned the bundles and fled to Mexico. A search of the area led to the discovery of five bundles of marijuana weighing nearly 280 pounds, worth an estimated $223K.
A short while later, Rio Grande Valley Sector agents working near Garceno, Texas, responded to a report of narcotics located within an abandoned residence. Upon arrival, agent located three bundles of marijuana weighing more than 175 pounds worth an estimated $140K inside the abandoned residence.
Additionally, in the past four days, Border Patrol has seized more than 375 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $302K, in three separate incidents.
