At the conclusion of Red Ribbon Week, Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector Border Patrol Agents participated in over one hundred events at schools throughout the RGV.

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Border Community Liaison program attended several Red Ribbon events across the Rio Grande Valley to promote awareness programs such as Operation Detour, to audiences of all age ranges. The program focuses on the dangers of getting involved with smuggling organizations.

Additionally, elementary school children received presentations from canine handlers, all-terrain vehicle (ATV) Units, and other specialty units to engage with the young children depicting this year’s message “Life Is A Journey Travel Drug Free.”

In Kingsville, Texas, Border Patrol agents joined the Kingsville Brush Country Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Department of Family and Protective Services for a Children Trunk or Treat. Agents interacted with the community handing out candy and playing a game for kids to win an additional prize. Over twenty community organizations and individuals were present to provide a safe and friendly trick or treating opportunity for children in the CASA program and within the community.

Leadership Harlingen held their law enforcement day on November 1, 2018 making their first stop at the McAllen Border Patrol Station. Acting Chief Patrol Agent Raul Ortiz addressed the class and they received an operation brief along with a tour of the McAllen Border Patrol Station. The class had scheduled visits with other law enforcement agencies such as the Cameron County Jail, Federal Game Warden’s and the Harlingen Police Department.

If you would like to request a presentation on Operation Detour or other programs, please contact the Border Patrol station nearest you or Border Community Liaison Supervisor Omar Cavazos at 956.289.5686.
