Today is a sweet day for Blue Bell Ice Cream lovers. It’s been eight long months since the company first announced that it was removing the brand off store shelves due to the discovery of Listeria in the ice cream in several states.
“Blue Bell is my favorite brand of Ice Cream,” said Wal-Mart Customer Reba Tyler. “I like Blue Bell.”
Another Wal-Mart Customer, Jessica Hansen, said the exact same thing.
According to Wal-Mart officials, Blue Bell was their No. 1 selling ice cream brand before the recall.
But it looks like it won’t be long before that happens again. In the 20 minutes I stood at the ice cream freezers, more than a dozen containers were chosen for purchase.
“Since it went out, I had customers asking for it on a daily basis, interested as to when it’s going to be back on the shelf, and I’m just glad,” said Wal-Mart Food Co-Manager Joshua Carpenter. “As you’ve seen in the last couple minutes, we got just one customer wiping out a whole shelf, so it’s that intense of a feeling.”
Wal-Mart just restocked its shelves with Blue Bell Ice Cream at around six this morning, and even though some people are super excited to have Blue Bell back, other people say they’ve completely lost trust in the company due to the Listeria outbreak.
“I feel super happy now that it’s back on the shelves,” said Hansen. “We’ve been waiting a while for it.”
“This is the first time I noticed it being back on the shelves,” said Tyler. “I feel great about that.”
They took it off the shelves for quite a while, right?” asked Wal-Mart Customer Miguel Robles. “It kind of gave them a bad image. I’m not going back to them.”
Since the bacterial outbreak, Blue Bell Ice Cream has passed all health exams and inspections.
“The company assures us that they’re back and they’re here to stay,” said Carpenter.
