The Brownsville Independent School District is getting ready to find some winners for this year’s 11th Annual Hot Ballroom Competition.
More in Don Johnson’s “Today in Brownsville.”
With about 371 couples from all school levels participating in the contest, three days of preliminaries have had to take place this week.
Dancing genres include Salsa, Mambo, Waltz, Tango, Swing among others…
A panel of judges including professional dancers are there to select the best at each school level, elementary, middle, and high school.
Tomorrow night’s finals competition will be a full house as it has already sold out.
Rebecca Rendon, BISD Fine Arts Administrator, “This program has just grown, it’s like an amazing program. the parents love it. the kids love it. and we did, we sold out last week. this venue is not large enough anymore for the type of program that we have but it’s amazing what the kids get out of the way. it’s super exciting for them. they have this one competition at the end of the year that it’s a really big deal for them.”
Dr. Rendon hopes they can allocate a performing arts center in the future to accommodate its growth.
The finals will be taking place tomorrow at five at the Brownsville Events Center.
Our News Center 23 Emily Jimenez will be mistress of ceremonies for this very special competition.
