Attorney for Former Priest Accused of Murder Looking to Have Trial Moved

Local News

The attorney for a former priest accused of murder is looking to have his case moved out of the Rio Grande Valley. But he will have to wait a month to see it will happen.

John Feit’s attorney is seeking a change of venue. He believes his client cannot get a fair trial because the case has received too much publicity.

Feit is charged with the murder of Irene Garza more than 55 years ago. Garza’s body was found in a ditch in 1960. Decades later another priest came forward and helped solve the alleged crime

Feit had given up the priesthood and had moved to Arizona where he had a family. The cold case was solved in 2016 and he was arrested.

He faces a first-degree murder charge for allegedly killing the teacher and one-time valley beauty queen. Irene Garza was last seen alive the night Feit heard her confession.

John Feit is now 84-years-old.
