Arena Football Returns to the Rio Grande Valley

Local News

Professional Arena Football is returning to the Rio Grande Valley after a 10-year absence.

The Rio Grande Valley Dorados are expected to play their first game on March 4th against the San Antonio Knights at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo. The Dorados began playing in 2004 and now have a new home in the International Arena Football League.

Juan Arrevalo, team owner says, “We expect a very competitive Dorado team. We expect a lot of local players to join the team. That’s one of the differences this year is that we want to have local players that have a lot of talent that perhaps played at the college level and give them an opportunity to play. A lot of excitement, I think a lot of the cities will join in and be part of the excitement that Dorados bring.”

The team will be hosting open tryouts on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 8:30 a.m. at the Plaza Sports Center in Pharr.
