Antibiotic Side Effects

Local News

A new government study reveals side effects from antibiotics send nearly 700,000 kids to the ER each year.

Nationwide estimates show most visits were for allergic reactions, ranging from rashes to severe swelling.

The risk varied by age and type of antibiotic used, but children two and younger had the highest odds of an adverse effect.

Past studies have shown that nearly one-third of antibiotic prescriptions for children were unnecessary.
