The American Red Cross celebrates 100 years of service by honoring local heroes.

The agency held an awards ceremony to honor 3 agencies. Texas DPS, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Border Patrol. Each agency nominated 2 outstanding individuals from their departments and one managerial officer.

Anna Putegnat, Red Cross South Texas Chapter, “We get to stand side by side when disaster happens or when a fire happens. They call on us and because they trust in us to come in and bring in food and shelter and any sort of comfort for a family that might be in distress.”

The American Red Cross hopes to honor more local heroes in Cameron County in the upcoming months.
