‘A place to play for all children’. That is what some parents are saying after a groundbreaking for an all-inclusive park.
This week the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation awards Cameron County $500,000 for a playground in La Esperanza Community Park. The site will host many amenities for handicapped and special needs children.
Stephanie Wilson executive director for the Capable Kids Foundation in South Texas said, “Having a park like this where they can come and enjoy just like any other kids and socialize, play with other kids, they don’t get a chance to do that.”
Alex Dominguez, Cameron County Commissioner said, “Having a playground where they can enjoy the outdoors and playing with their friends and family members means the world to me. This is one of the most important projects we’ve done at the county.”
This will be the first park of its kind in the County parks system. In addition to the new playground, community members plan to donate resources towards the construction of ADA compliant restrooms.
