It’s a billion-dollar industry in the Rio Grande Valley and now some are joining forces to spark interest in young students.
This morning Texas State Technical College hosts the annual Agriculture Expo.
Federal agencies, educators and experts discuss the industry to college and high school students.
Event topics ranged from research to field work.
TSTC Career Services Director, Viviana Espinosa says, “What we would like to do is create awareness of agriculture and our agriculture program here at TSTC.”
“And to inform them about what we do,” says Customs and Border Protection spokesperson Jaqueline Bruce, “what it takes to get a job like the one we have to become an agriculture specialist.”
Agriculture played an important role in forming what is now the Rio Grande Valley.
Organizers tell us this is the 7th year this event is held at the Harlingen school.
