BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The aging process is something that can’t be slow down or stopped, but there are many things that can be done to age healthy.

The 3rd annual “Aging Healthy RGV” summit is bringing attention to the health concerns affecting the aging population. The summit aims at providing information and resources to help the community improve their well-being.

A health professional tells Local 23 what you can do to age healthy.

Dr. Christopher Ledingham, UTRGV professor, “We have to take care of our bodies. We have to make sure we are eating well, we’re getting the right type of exercise for our physical ability and we have to take care of our feet because if we can’t walk, we can’t do what we need to do.”

Aging Healthy is not just a summit for senior citizens, but it is for every one. Doctors recommend getting a check up once a year. Those who are diabetic or dealing with other health problems, doctors say they may need to go more often.
