The ACLU describes the situation under the Paso Del Norte Bridge in El Paso Texas as “The worst we’ve seen in recent history”.
The ACLU filed a complaint calling for The Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection to immediately end the “caging of migrants” in outdoor holding areas.
The complaint also calls for an investigation into the treatment of asylum seekers. In a statement, the legal director of the ACLU of Texas says, “Locking up families with small children outside barbed wire fencing and forcing them to sleep in near freezing temperatures is shocking, even for an administration that has consistently developed cruel and inhumane immigration policies.”
CBP says the building next to the Paso Del Norte Bridge will continue to serve as a processing facility and denies the allegations.
