51 immigrants pulled from stash houses

Local News

Five men and women are behind bars after Border Patrol Agents discovered a stash house Monday afternoon.

Agents and Hidalgo County Sheriff deputies found a total of 56 immigrants inside two apartments in mission.

Border Patrol officials say the apartments were being used as stash houses, and they were in deplorable conditions.

Marlene Castro with U.S. Border Patrol says, “It was two apartments with a combined total of 51 people, 56 if you include five smugglers that were arrested. (and what were conditions when agents arrived?) Filthy, extremely dirty, trash strewn throughout the house. There was food, but very little. There were some cases of water, but overall the conditions were deplorable.”

We’re told the immigrants were from four different countries. Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. They were turned over to Homeland security for further investigation.
