U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Falfurrias Station found three dead people over a four day period.
On May 11th Border Patrol agents were advised by an illegal immigrant that he had come across a body in a remote area of Brooks County. Agents responded, retraced the footprints and found the remains. On May 13th, following up on a tip provided by a concerned citizen, agents discovered another body, also in a remote area of Brooks County. The third body was found by agents while they were tracking a group of suspected illegal immigrants.
With the heat index rising and the summer months approaching Chief Patrol Agent Manuel Padilla, Jr. advises all immigrants to be aware of the extreme heat in South Texas and to not attempt the treacherous journey. “Human smugglers will treat you like a commodity and will not think twice about leaving you to die in desolate environments,” Chief Patrol Agent Padilla continues to warn.
On Wednesday, May 25th, Join Chief Padilla and leadership for the annual Border Safety Initiative event, where journalists “walk in the shoes” of immigrants. A mile-long brush walk, a mock BORSTAR rescue and tractor trailer simulation will be followed by a press conference at the Falfurrias Checkpoint.
