2017 Hot Air Balloon Festival Cancelled

The year is almost over, and some may be wondering what happened to annual hot air balloon festival.

The 3-day event known for the iconic hot air balloon rides is cancelled this year.

We reached out to event organizers who tell us that “unstable weather conditions” were too much of a risk to keep the event going this year.

Hot air ballooning is dependent on calm weather, something organizers were unsure would happen this year.

The organizers tell us they would like to keep visitors safe and are hopeful for a return in 2018.

Valley Livestock Showgrounds in Mercedes, the home to the balloon festival, says they have no misunderstanding with event organizers and would consider the return of the festival if approached in the future.
