Texas beaches, including those at South Padre Island are a lot cleaner thanks to a yearly effort by volunteers.

The beach cleanup broke another record. More than 1,400 volunteers, picking up 72,000 pounds of trash.

It was all part of the 2017 Adopt-A-Beach Winter Cleanups. Nine beaches were targeted for trash pick-up.

In the RGV alone some 700 volunteers showed up to help.

They picked up more than 50,000 pounds of trash in a five mile stretch.
