19-year old father killed in crash, 4-year old son airlifted to hospital

WESLACO, Texas – The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a three vehicle fatal crash that occurred last night at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Business 77 south of F.M. 3168 south of Raymondville.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Black 2010 Chevrolet Malibu (occupied by the driver and one passenger only) was traveling north on Business 77 towards Raymondville.  A Maroon 2007 Chevrolet Impala (occupied by the driver and one passenger only) was traveling north on Business 77 approaching the Malibu.

Driver of the Impala attempted to veer right into the shoulder striking the Malibu. The Malibu went into a side skid across the northbound lane and into the southbound lane.  A white 2005 Chevrolet Silverado traveling south on Business 77 then struck the Malibu in the southbound lane. The Malibu was careened off the roadway into the west shoulder. The Impala traveled northbound onto the grass, back on the road then shot across a ditch, a covert and dislodge a tree becoming struck.

19-year-old Jonathan Young, a resident of Raymondville and driver of the Malibu was transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.  A four year old child, son of the deceased, was airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio in critical condition. Driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, was transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center in critical condition.

26-year-old Dayna Louise Salinas, driver of the Chevrolet Impala and resident of Raymondville was arrested and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault. Salinas was transported and booked into the Willacy County Jail.  DPS Troopers are further investigating this fatal crash.
