CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a three-vehicle fatality crash that occurred on May 28. The accident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on US 77, half mile south of Rivera, in Kleberg County.
Early investigations reveal a 2003 Chevy Suburban, occupied by the driver and four passengers, was traveling northbound on US 77. A 2005 Freight-liner truck tractor semi-Trailer, occupied by the driver only, was traveling southbound on US 77. The driver of the Chevy Suburban traveled into the southbound lane. The driver of the Freightliner tried to take evasive action and was struck by the Chevy Suburban in the driver’s side.
15-month-old Ezekiel Castro of Edinburg, the passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. A ten-year-old male passenger and the adult male driver of the Suburban were both trapped and had to extracted and then both airlifted by Halo-Flight to Christus Spohn Shoreline and Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi. A nine-year-old male and Adult Female were transported to Spohn Kleberg in Kingsville.
The driver of the Freightliner was examined by EMT’s at the scene of the crash and released. The female passenger then was transported by Halo-Flight to Christus Spohn Shoreline in Serious Condition. The nine-year-old male passenger was transferred to Driscoll Children’s Hospital. Texas DPS is further investigating the fatal crash.
