Local alligator exhibit is a success

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – Alligators have made south padre island their home. Every day there are alligator exhibits at the Birding Nature and Alligator Sanctuary. The exhibit is part of educating the public on alligators and wildlife. While the exhibit has only been open for a couple months, it’s already bringing a lot of awareness to these animals.

Britney Marchan, Environmental Educator, “So many people this summer we saw come in from the Rio Grande Valley. That told me they didn’t even know this place existed and that was the best feeling because we’re reaching more people. This is their backyard and the more you know about it the more you appreciate it and then the more you want to take care of it and protect it.”

The sanctuary’s goal for this exhibit is to clear up any misconceptions about alligators. The exhibit is now a permanent addition to the center and is offered three times a day.
