Legal groups getting ready to combat sexual harassment in the workplace

News

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Legal groups in the Rio Grande Valley are announcing their campaign to combat sexual harassment in the workplace. The Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid is launching “Our Voice”. This campaign offers Valley workers a safe place to share their stories and provide them with free legal assistance. The TRLA is hoping to give survivors a voice into the #MeeToo movement.

Their campaign will also battle myths about what is and isn’t considered sexual harassment.

Kathryn Youker, TRLA attorney, “How do you recognize it when it’s happening. Part of our campaign is going to dispel common myths that we hear like that it’s not sexual harassment if it doesn’t involve touching. Which is not true, it can be comments, gestures, images, it can be many things it doesn’t have to involve a touching to be sexual harassment.”

“Our Voice” is offering workshops including a “know your rights” seminar. All of their resources are free and confidential.
