Jury selection in strangulation death trial to begin August 12

EDINBURG, Texas – Jury selection in a murder trial involving a man accused in a strangulation death has been delayed until Monday, August 12.

Authorities say 37-year-old, Juan Manuel Hernandez is responsible for murdering his mother’s caregiver, 61-year-old Alisa Maria Garza. It occurred in October of 2017. Hernandez was arrested after he walked into the McAllen Police Department to report he found Garza’s body wrapped up inside his car.

We spoke to Hernandez’s attorney about the case.

Jesse Villalobos, “Without a doubt this is a very tragic case. My heart goes out to the family of this lady, but I do believe that when all the facts are brought out, I think you’re going to see that there is actually another side to this story. I do believe that my client is not responsible for this lady’s tragic death.”

If convicted Hernandez could face up to life in prison. Jury selection is set for Monday at 11:00 a.m.
