Homeland Security Secretary on migrant detention center conditions

News

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan is defending the actions taken at migrant facilities.

He claims staff is doing its best with the resources they are given and the huge numbers of migrants entering the country illegally.

This comes as President Trump vowed to open the centers for the press to see conditions are not all that bad, given the situation at hand.

The Trump administration is pushing back against reports that migrant children were being held in horrific conditions in federal detention facilities.

“I’m not denying that there are challenging situations at the border, I’ve been the one talking about it the most… What I can tell you right now is that there’s adequate food, water…For over a year, there’s been showers there.” Said acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan.

The administration’s defense comes just days after democratic members of Congress toured two Texas border facilities and expressed outrage over the conditions.
