BROWNSVILLE, Texas — A Brownsville historic marker finds a new home. The Palo Alto Battlefield National Historic Park dedicates a historic marker and canon at the Resaca De La Palma Park. It served in the battles in the Mexican American War in the mid-1800s. Now, it serves as one of four canons that commemorates the historic war.
Daniel Ibarra, Park Ranger – Palo Alto Battlefield, “Working in partnership with the Daughters of the American Revolution to relocate this monument to a place where it would be not only safer to the public, to come and view, but also to hit close to home. What it was supposed to do in the first place.”
The Resaca De La Palma Battlefield is one of two national parks located in the Rio Grande Valley. The newly installed monument is accessible to the public at no cost.
