High school mariachi singer wins California competition


MCALLEN, Texas – A McAllen High School Mariachi singer wins a national singing competition in California.

Ashley Treviño was crowned the 2019 Mariachi Nationals Vocal Champion at the Jose Hernandez National Competition. A member of the McAllen High School Mariachi Oro team, she performed in front of more than 5,000 people. She was also the opening act for the Mariachi Sol de Mexico and other big names like Ana Barbara.

Ashley Trevino 2019 Mariachi Nationals Vocal Champion, “I was just there for fun to learn to continue growing my skills. I never expected to win first place. When I went up there, when they called my name, I was shaking like it was so crazy.”

In addition to bragging rights Treviño also won a $500 prize.
