EDINBURG, Texas — A new fire station is coming to the city of Edinburg. This morning a groundbreaking was held to mark the start of construction. Completion is expected to take 8 to 12 months.
The new facility will be located off east David Road behind the Texas DPS offices. The 10,000 square foot facility will also serve as a multi-purpose facility which will include a police sub-station and EMS.
Fire Chief Shawn Snider says response times for emergencies will be reduced. “This brings the fire department here versus us always having to respond from the middle of town up into this area. It’s going to shave off a minimum of five minutes and could be as high as 10 minutes depending on how far north we go.”
Money for the new station came from a previous $2 million bond plus a half million-dollar investment from the county.
