FEMA center now open

RAYMONDVILLE, Texas – A FEMA Disaster Recovery Center is now open in Willacy County.

This week, a continued media tour across the Rio Grande Valley to bring awareness to the services offered for those affected by the June Floods. The goal, to have a one stop location made up of federal, state, and local government along with non-profit organizations to aid local residents.

FEMA Public Information Officer La-Tanga Hopes says, “we’re open 7 to 7, 7 days a week and that will be until further notice.”

Assistance include grants for temporary housing, home repairs, medical and dental expenses, funeral costs, along with many others.

“Don’t feel like you’re out there by yourself. Says County Judge Aurelio Guerra. “Don’t feel that you’ve been neglected. Because in reality you have not. At the very least, at the very least, you have a county judge that does care.”

To apply, coordinators ask that you bring proof of damage, along with identification documents.

Hopes says, “Any valid ID that you would have. Information of where the disaster may have impacted you. As many details as you can about that. If you have insurance, bring that information, if you have checking or other banking information that too will be useful in case there is an award.”

The Raymondville site is one of 3 across the Rio Grande Valley.

Assistance is also available online or by phone.

Bi-lingual support will be provided in English and Spanish.
