Domestic Violence hotline set to launch in Rio Grande Valley

News

EDINBURG, Texas – A one-night hotline dedicated to combating domestic violence in the Valley set to launch on Aug. 28. The Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office Domestic Violence Unit with Sheriff Eddie Guerra are launching Operation Safe Talk. The hotline is made to provide prevention and education to the community and assist victims of domestic violence.

Between January 2017 and July 2019, the district attorney’s office has assisted more than 5,000 domestic violence victims.

Ricardo Rodriguez, District Attorney, “Anywhere from giving them information about our victims’ unit, giving information about what we do here at the office, anywhere from where to go make a complaint, where to file charges, protective orders… Those topics are very important. Some individuals have no idea what they’re supposed to do if they are victims.”

Anyone in need of assistance can call (956) 661-6000 between 4:00 p.m. and 10:35 p.m. on August 28. Help is available in English and Spanish.
