District Attorney: “Serious threat to children in the community”

News

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — A Physician’s Assistant dealing with migrant children has been arrested in Harlingen for possession and promotion of Child Pornography. 56-year-old Stephen Allen Pichler was taken into custody following a lengthy investigation by the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office in what is being called a child pornography sting.

A team from the DA’s office and Rio Grande Valley Child Exploitation Investigation Task Force executed a warrant at Pichler’s home. Pichler is someone that District Attorney Luis V. Saenz characterizes as a serious threat to children in the community.

“It’s very disturbing because of who he is. He’s a professional P.A. who is a professional person, works in a doctor’s office. When mothers or parents take their kids’ to a doctor, first thing they have them do is have them wait in a little room and disrobe and the mother is asked to wait in the lobby. You’re thinking as a parent that my child is safe. He’s here with the doctor or the P.A. and now you come to find out that the child is not safe. Since we posted on Facebook we’ve had parents already comment that it was their doctor that they took their kids there. Since the arrest we knew he had a contract with the federal agency to deal with undocumented children. Now I found out that he has a state contract that also dealt with foster kids. It’s very disturbing.”

While the investigation into Pichler’s present and past actions continues, the DA says there is a good possibility his victims may have not only been in the Valley but also other cities in Texas and other states.

If you have information about Pichler you believe can help in the investigation call the task force at 1-866-347-2423.
