County surpassing voter registration numbers

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Cameron County has surpassed its goal for registered voters before next year’s presidential election.

Their goal was to get 210,000 people registered to vote by the end of the year.

Cameron County has announced that they have exceeded that goal by over 1,000 eligible voters, this is the most the county has ever seen, and officials say it won’t stop there.

“As the primaries approached and then ultimately the presidential election next November, that we’re going to generate a lot of interest and there’s going to be a lot of registrations happening for either people who are just becoming 18 or who are getting engaged in the community,” said Remi Garza Cameron County Elections admin.

Their goal is to have 220,000 people registered for the 2020 presidential election.

They will be at the zoo next week giving out information to those wanting to get involved.
