County judge encouraging public to get flu shot

News

EDINBURG, Texas – Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez recently received his annual flu shot during the recent commissioners’ court. He is now encouraging the community to do the same.

More than 25,000 people die every year in the United States from influenza-related complications according to the Centers for Disease Control. The federal agency recommends getting the vaccination by the end of October, before flu season begins.

Judge Cortez says it is everyone’s responsibility to do their part and get vaccinated in order to keep the community healthy. “For us to take our flu shot protects not only ourselves but our children and our families and hopefully we’ll try to mitigate the spreading of this disease. It’s real easy to do. I highly encourage all of us to go out there and get the flu shot.”

Judge Cortez adding that being infected by the flu also leads to economic ramifications from missed work.
