Conviction in international drug conspiracy


PHARR, Texas – A valley woman is heading to federal prison for her role in an extensive narcotic smuggling organization.

Sadie Elaine Canales, 25, from the City of Pharr has been sentenced to 140 months for conspiring to distribute nearly six kilos of methamphetamine.

At the hearing Monday, the court determined she was a supervisor or manager in the international drug conspiracy where she arranged the transportation of the narcotics through the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint near Sarita.

The Drug Enforcement Administration led the investigation with the assistance of Border Patrol.
