City of Lyford assessing flood damage

LYFORD, Texas — The city is working to assist citizens in distress due to the flooding conditions. The city’s attempts to pump water out of flooded areas, at this time, are ineffective due to swollen and over flowing canals, reservoirs and retention ponds. The city is working diligently with county officials to resolve these issues. Several city streets have been closed and we are asking citizens to respect the barricades and not drive on closed roads to protect the property of the residents on those streets.

The City of Lyford requests that any citizen(s) are in need of evacuation, contact the Lyford Police Department at 956-347-3250, or the Willacy County Sheriff’s Office at 956-689-5576 for transportation arrangements to the Willacy County Safe Room. In case of an emergency, please dial 911. The City of Lyford will continue to issue sand bags to our citizens for an undetermined amount of time. Please contact Lyford City Hall for sand bag information at 956-347-3512.
