Celebrating 100 years of Women voting

News

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – With elections underway women are celebrating a historic mark in the fight for equality.

It’s been 100 years since women got the right to vote in this country. The League of Women Voters of Texas are celebrating that victory by educating young generations to get out and vote. Recently, the league created YouTube videos informing voters about the 10 proposition on the November ballot. Even after 100 years many say the fight for women’s rights is not over.

Kathy Bussert-Webb, League of Women Voters member, “There are a lot of laws that impinge on the rights of women and if you look at women in leadership positions, in companies and organizations and in politics we really have a long way to go.”

Webb is encouraging both men and women to educate themselves and go to their nearest polling place and cast their votes.
