Boxer Xavier Boccanegra says, “It feels good because it’s under our name, our last name. We support everyone that comes here. We support everyone.”
“I feel great,” says head coach Ranulfo Bocanegra, “it speaks volumes of what we’re doing here. That other kids, not just my kids are accomplishing their dreams too of becoming a national champion or something.”
For the Bocanegra family the recent victory is one of many national titles. For young boxers like Devin Carreon or Liz Retiz, it’s their first major victory.
“They say that boxing is a guy sport,” says Retiz, “But there is women that can compete in it too and it feels great to be one of those women.”
The head coach says they may not have a large gym to practice, but they’ll continue to make the best with the little they have.
